What make and model switches does Helix Telecom recommend?

Helix Telecom recommends any quality, non-gigabit, unmanaged network switch.

The following switch has been tested by multiple customers with positive feedback:

The TL-SF1024D comes in multiple form factors including 13”, 19” and Desktop with 5, 8, 16, 24 and 48 ports.

Gigabit Switches

Customers who wish to use a gigabit network switch should meet the following conditions:

  • The speed of your internet connection must exceed 100Mbps and;
  • Your ISP must provide you with a modem or router capable of 1Gbps on both the WAN port and LAN ports and;
  • Your router must be capable of speeds exceeding 100Mbps (aka Gigabit) and;
  • Your switch, if applicable, must be cable of supporting speeds in excess of 100MBps (aka Gigabit) and;
  • All internal wiring must be properly shielded and terminated CAT6 and;
  • Helix Telecom recommends purchasing only phones capable of 1Gbps network speeds.

Managed Switches

Customers who choose to purchase Layer 3 or “Managed Switches” should contact a qualified network engineer to discuss configuration and implementation. Layer 3 or “Managed Switches” must be managed by a network professional. Helix Telecom will not respond or assist you with configuration of any switching device.
