How do I complete a ping test?

The process for completing a ping test from a Windows computer can be found below. If you are using a Apple or Linux computer please contact a computer repair technician to assist you.

Windows Key

You will need to press the Windows key on your keyboard to complete the following instructions. Here is an example keyboard indicating what the Windows key looks like.

Begin

Follow these instructions to complete the ping test from your Windows computer.

  • Press and hold the WINDOWS key (see image above)
  • Press the R key
  • The RUN dialog box should appear. It should look like the image found here:

  • If there is any text in the RUN box then delete it.
  • Enter cmd into the RUN dialog box as shown in this image:

  • Press the RETURN key or click OK
  • Wait for a black screen with some text to appear on your computer.

  • Type the command provided to you by the support department. If you were not provided a command then enter the command below into the black box. Begin entering the command after the right carrot symbol.
ping -n 500 www.helixtelecom.com > %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\ping.txt
  • A text file labeled ping.txt should immediately appear on your Windows Desktop. Do not delete, move or modify this file.
  • Wait 1 Hour. Do not close the command prompt window during this time.
  • Create a new email message to support@helixtelecom.com using your favorite mail client.
  • Attach ping.txt file to the email message.
  • Enter your ticket number into the subject of your email message.
  • Click SEND to send your email message with ping.txt attached.
  • You may now delete ping.txt from your Desktop.
