Can I use a gigabit router or switch on my network?

Helix Telecom strongly discourages the use of gigabit level routers unless the customer's internet connection supports speeds ABOVE 100Mbits download and ABOVE 100Mbits upload. Even in these cases a customer must have a compatible gigabit switch with properly terminated internal wiring exceeding Cat5E standards. Customers who install gigabit equipment without properly terminated cabling will experience dropped calls, poor call quality, static other connection issues.

Customers who need gigabit network speeds for internal file transfers should only install a gigabit switch and must use properly terminated Cat5E connections or greater. Installing a gigabit switch with substandard internal wiring will lead to dropped calls, poor call quality, static other connection issues.
